Another brake question

Hey folks!
Iit's been a while since my last visit but I know brake squeal was a hot topic at one point. Now that I am beginning to experience it, what has been found to be a solution? Has Ford offered any help? I will be going to the dealer for my free oil service soon and would like to have them fix the problem if it can be done.

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Brake squeal is something that can happen with any vehicle. In general, the remedies are:

1. Lightly sand the brake pads
2. Turn/resurface rotors
3. Replace pads and/or rotors

Option 1 sometimes works, sometimes only temporarily. Same with option 2. Option 3 generally is most effective when one or both items are non-OEM.

On my bike, for example, switching from stock rotors to floating rotors (also OEM) solves the problem.

All good but I would also add sometimes, you can fix it by just washing the rotors, pads really well, then blow drying them.
Or pull the pads off, and apply some 'goop' or 'sticky stuff' (sold at all auto parts place under names like 'disc brake quiet' or 'anti-squeal' behind the pad to keep the sound from traveling through the caliper and into the cab.

As an aside;
I have never heard any squeal at all from my STX, and I tried very hard to over heat the brakes (testing the Kleen-Wheels) this weekend, driving down from Arrowhead way too fast on the back roads. No squeal, No overheating.

Thanks for the ideas but Tim I would like to say that while your ideas might help sometimes, I don't feel that I should have to do any work on a 30k $ vehicle with less than 12k miles. I have never owned a vehicle that the brakes squealed except when the were worn out.
Don't take me wrong Tim, I am not comming down or your suggestion, I appreciate the input, but I hate driving this nice vehicle and having the brakes squeal every time and I do mean every time you touch the brake pedal.

I understand completely. One thing I didn't make clear is that you don't have to perform any of those suggestions yourself. The dealer should be willing to help remedy the problem, especially if it happens as much as you say (i.e., it's easily demonstrated). I just meant to say that no make/model seems free from the potential for brake squeal, those some are more prone than others. It comes down to a combination of parts and sometimes to how they were installed.

Fortunately, my FX4 has been fine since day 1. In my car, I had one helluva bad hum-vibration after I had new pads installed. I made the shop replace them with a different brand and the problem went away. I don't know if it was a bad set or just a bad brand for my car.

Talk to you dealer and see what they are willing to do.
