Just about once a week i have to top off the radiator with fluid it's about 3/4 full when i go to top it off. I have lots of power from the motor i don't see any leaks from the radiator. I see no water from tailpipe. Does this mean that my head gasket might be leaking?
Ryan
Next time you top off the radiator start the engine and look for bubbles in the coolant at the radiator cap. If you see'em head gasket or cracked head is possible.
I have an 88, 302 EFI. I had a problem where I was losing fluid and thought I smelled coolant. On the radiator, there is an extra nipple that was blocked off with a rubber nub. That rubber had worn through, and everytime the Bronco got hot, it would come out of this little nipple. It was on top of the radiator on the driver's side.
I wish I could help more with specifics, but I don't remember them, and it's the first day back from a 3 day weekend.....good luck getting anything from my brain.
Either way....check that out. You'l feel a lot better if you go in thinking head gasket, and come out knowing it's just a $.03 piece of rubber.
Stick around....there's a lot of REALLY smart folks when it comes to Broncos on this board. Come for the repair, and stay for the lessons. You know the saying..."if you teach a man to fish....
I would have to agree with BigBlackBronco. You can also check your oil to see if it is kinda milky or has bubbles in it... If so, the you have a head gasket leak or a cracked water jacket and the two are mixing. To check for leaks, start your truck and let it sit idling for about 10 minutes to get it all warmed up. Then check all over under the hood immediatly after you shut it off to see if there are any leaks from a pinhole that can be missed when cold. As soon as you shut it off, the pressure will build without the coolant circulating and make leaks more visible...unless you are empty of course.
i had this same problem. turned out to be a bad heater core that was leaking just enough to burn the fluid but not leak on the floorboard. its easy to at least look at it.
