Try to start it again, but this time press and hold the accelerator pedal about 1/8 down. If the engine runs, but stalls when pedal is released, good chance that the IAC (idle air control) valve is stuck or dead. Do a site search on IAC valve.
yes, it will run briefly while holding down the pedal...then die when released... i'll search for the fix... is it relatively easy and inexpensive to fix? thanks!
IAC valve should run $60 - $80 for the part. Easy DIY job - simply remove two bolts to pull off the old valve. Put new one in its place and put the bolts back in. Only issue is the valve is very hard to reach, its all the way in the back of the engine. Your symptoms are classic for IAC valve, I'd be surprised if it were anything else.
