I think i am going to find newer frame and do the whole swap thing , that would be the easiest. I don't care for drum brakes all around. Bad experience if you know what i mean.
imstobu, Welcome to FTE The best truck show on the net
I don't think you can look at my 66 F100 and say that the 76 I-beams, power steering gear, brake booster, etc. don't look factory, because everything is in the same install holes as before. IMHO
sounds like im trying to do the same thing to my truck as you are. I have a '66 F-100 and i want to convert it to power steering and power brakes. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I COULD FIND INFO ON THIS? would it be hard? is it costly? please let me know, i really want to convert to power steering and im not sure what steps to take in doing so.
Is your truck a 4x4 or 2wd? There is a lot of infromation here on doing a convertion using the 70's steering boxes on the 2wd. You can use the search option to find this infro. 4x4 is very differant when it comes to steering.
ridecommando! Welcome to FTE! The short answer to your question is all the info you could possibly use to convert your 66 to power steering and power brakes is available right here. Use the forum search function and you will have access to hundreds of posts and answers on this subject. I'll give you the short answer! This is a bolt on deal using 100% Ford parts either new, cored or Junk Yard. You can do this upgrade by moving components like the steering column, steering gear, I-Beams master cylinder and booster and such or simply move your 66 sheet metal over to a later frame 73-79 with all the options you want. This is your call and you should give it some thought. Again "Welcome".

Excellent answer William, a dozen roses for you sir.
Sorry it took so long to reply, I don't mean to sound redundant, there are a lot of good replies and excellent advice , but , what year ford truck drive train/frame will my 62 F350 4x4 BODY fit on? Shelly has been sitting all winter and she is ready to get out and cruise. please help.
I have the Toyota conversion on my 64 straight axle, 2wd, swb f100. The box is a mid-80's 4wd Toyota that is mounted in front of the front cross member on the Toyota. The conversion works great....the box is a bit slower than the stock Ford setup but having power assist and good feedback make it worth the effort. That's the good news!
Now for some realistic things to consider. I run a 460 Lincoln engine....slightly off-center to the passengers side...no headers because of clearance with the box and the rear crossmember under the firewall has to come out.
I have real concerns about interference between the clutch linkage but you have to make that call.
If you're comfortable with welders and have a fairly well equipped shop it is do-able. The lower end fabrication is fairly straight forward. It's the top end, shortening a column, fabbing mounting brackets and getting everything properly (safely) installed is time consuming, and can be expensive if you have to spring for a short column from Flaming River or Ididit!
Check my gallery for some pix of the conversion and if you want to take the leap.....shoot me an email and I'll walk you through it.

Hi Dave,
I have been searching the forum for this because I could swear that I've seen it on here before, but do you know if this Toyota box conversion will work for the '62 F100 Uni? I am crossing my fingers! Any help would be great, I'm in need of an easier steer, have truck in the shop as we speak having the steering column and gear box torn down to see what's salvageable and would just as soon have the conversion done now, thanks in advance :-)
