I have a new set of FORD 390 pistons(don't know what year, flat tops with 390 4V mark on the wrist pin area) I plan on using...did Ford make there own or were they made by a supplier?
The 390 4V pistons sound like good ones to use. Do they have a dish?
I have NO idea on if they made their own or not. If I had to venture an educated guess, I would say that they did. I'm also going to guess that you probably got 'em out of a 360.
no dish, they are flat top, only relief for valves, and they are for a 390 passenger car engine,( I wouldn't own a 360) they are new std bore with rings, I've had them for years, finally going to use them...just curious who made them..alot of parts were made by diffent suppliers, or if Ford made their own
Well as rumor had it back in the 60's and 70's that one of TRW's foundries had the contract for making many of the big 3 pistons...all of there most popular engine's?
I do know from Memory, that my part catalog of years ago...My TRW Cat..was one of the first Ford gave us as a replacement Catalog for the FE Pistons?
Now take that with a grain of salt...cause I'am going back 25 years when we had the Automotive speed shop...
I looked at your Panel jim...Nice..I'am going to try and find some pics of my 57 Panel and put them in my gallery.. I remember taking some pics of it..very gew ..I had other things on my mind.. I took the pis in Palm Springs at the Kings Row Inn.. Years ago!!
Mine had No power brakes or steering... a mild 302 and a C4 behind it..and a 9" 3:89 trac-loc with 13"s of hide on each side in the back and some skinny's up front!
thanks Russ..when I first got it in 1975 I put a 390 in it for about a year..but the gas was killing me...so I built a 223 and a 3spd overdrive.........still drive it everyday...on its second rebuild.........I put alot of miles on it, us it alot for camping and road trips...wish I had more pictures of all my old Fords
