On my 76 ford I been having a problem with the turn signal, dont know if its in the cluster or if its in the column, but when I put it on to do a right hand turn sometimes it comes on and sometimes it wont, and sometimes if I am just sitting and turn it on to the right maybe after one minute it sometimes will come on. Anyone know what may be causing it. Someone earlier said something about a ground wire loose? Thanks for the help.
The first thing I would do is pull all the bulbs on the right side front and rear, and scrape and clean the sockets and the outside brass part of the bulb, and the contacts at the bottom. Also hold the bulb up to a light and watch the filament inside carefully while you flick the bulb with your finger. If you see one of the filaments jiggling around inside the bulb, you may need a new bulb.
The thing is the other day it worked fine, it happened after I changed the cluster circuit on the back. there was a little think about an inch wide that was on the new one but there was no place for the old one. could that be it? if you sit with it turned on about a minute later it will start blinking, it has to be somewhere in the new cluster. maybe its that little piece ill drill some holes so it will fit onto the back.
There is not much there on the cluster to affect the turnsignals. There is the indicator bulb, and that is it. If the outside lights are working, and the inside one isn't, then yes I would say it's a cluster problem.
So it's either a coincidence that the turnsignals failed at the same time the cluster was replaced, or there is some obscure thing with the cluster causing it. Maybe you knocked something else loose in the column or under the dash to cause it when you were working on the cluster.
