4x4 launches??

has anyone tried a 4x4 launch with their supercharged f150? will the drivetrain hold up all the way down the track. will 4 wheel drive slow you down in the 1/4 mile?? would you recomend doing this?

About the only advatage you'll have is the bite out of the hole, but then the added friction takes over. You'd be better off to pull the front driveshaft and swaybar and, if available, throw a set of sticky tires on it.

"will 4 wheel drive slow you down in the 1/4 mile?"
It helps more than it hurts if you can use the traction.
The extra traction will lower your 60' and ET, and thats is what counts. you might lose a few mph or you might gain a few mph (not a big deal).

"will the drivetrain hold up all the way down the track."
If it lives past the 60' mark it most likely will. If the rear drive line can hold up in 2WD in can hold up in 4WD. The front won't see the stress the rear will due to weight transfer.
Are the diff ratios the same front and rear?

"would you recomend doing this?"
I'll leave that for you to decide.

This guy is useing his stock axles and it runs 10s in 4WD. I know this truck won't run as fast in 2WD. The stock tires is probably why the stock axles live.

A friend of mine down in San Antonio has a 2004 4x4 crew cab Dodge dually that runs low 13's. I had the chance to ride with him a few times down the track. He launches in 4hi. After the 60 foot mark, he slides the transfer case lever back to 2wd. Most new trucks you can shift from 4wd hi to 2wd hi on the fly. And man what a rush that was. I know it's a Dodge, but man that thing runs.

Unless you let your foot of the loud pedal (in the SD's anyway, don't know about the Dodges) you still have full load on the TC, and it won't actually shange back into 3wd until loat is taken off it I believe.

And as for traction. Go for a sticky set of rear tires and you can't go wrong.
