I have a '78 F250 w/dual tanks. I'm not sure how the fuel system works. The rear tank is the only one I draw from, as the switching system has gone whacky. The gage will register for the front tank, but won't transfer to draw from it. as I reult, I have run out of gas, with a full front tank. My handy dandy chilton's manual doesn't go into depth on this system, nor does it offer a good diagram.
Where can I find the solenoid, or valve, or whatever switches when I change tanks?
I believe the solenoid is located just ahead of the rear tank. I also believe it defaults to the rear tank when it does not have power. So this would either be a bad solenoid, wire to the solenoid, or switch on your dash.
Check to see if it has any voltage to it with the switch in either position. If you have voltage and apparently a good connection, check the valve.
You can check it on the rig. Have someone switch it while youre there to hear it. I think you should be able to hear it switch. If not, you probably should replace it.
Just be sure to mark your lines before you take it off.
