Introduction and Keyless Entry Remote
Hello everyone,
I'm very happy to have joined this forum, I have read alot of the posts and learned alot about my newly purchased explorer. This week I bought a 2003 Ford Explorer XLT. The car did not come with an owners manual or the combination for the keyless entry. First I took it to the dealership where they wanted to charge me $97. I came home and searched the internet for a few days when I found this website. This site had all the answers I needed and I found the answer I was looking for. Thanks for that
Now that I'm here I was wondering if I could ask a question. I have been searching eBay for a new keyless remote to my car, because the one I have is worn down and the buttons are hard to push. The problem is, I have a different remote than all the ones sold on ebay. It has lock, unlock, identify, and automatic start (I have pictures that I can send/post if you need to see it) I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get one of those, or if I bought one from ebay made for my car, if I could still use the automatic start even thought they have the back hitch unlock button instead of the automatic start button.

That sounds like an aftermarket system. My 2003 has the standard remote, that doesn't include autostart. I don't remember remote starting being a factory option. You'll need to find out what the aftermarket system is that's on yours. For mine, I got some extra remotes from e-bay as well as spare keys. On the newer ones, like the '03, if you only have two keys, I'd suggest getting a spare. As long as you have 2, you can program the car to your spare, but if you only have 1, you'll have to pay the dealership to to program a spare.
