Hi! I made an emergency stop with new 05 Expedition with Advanc Trak. Brakes locked (skid marks), came to fast straight stop. Tried on wet pavement, straight line stop, no pulsing seemed to occur. Again stop was straight and controled. Is this normal? Is Brake Assist overriding ABS when vehicle remains under control or is there a problem with ABS? Thanks!
Can't say that I've ever made an emergency stop in our '04. Sure doesn't sound like your 'anti-lock' brake system is keeping things from locking up. Can you tell if all 4 wheels are locked or just two?
I've had the brake asist kick in once on me and I was really impressed. I slowed down real quick, but the brakes didn't lock up like in your case. I also didn't have to continue to push hard on the pedal. Once the assist kicked in, it required much less foot pressure from me. As the idiot that turned in front of me cleared the intersection, I let off and kept going. But that first fraction of a second when I slammed down on the brake, I could feel the assist pull the pedal down.
My personal feeling about your case is that the brakes should not lock up. Atleast not permanately. They will temporarily and that's when the ABS kicks in.

I had to make an emergency stop in my '03 Expedition one time when a school bus pulled right out in front of me; my '03 stopped incredibly fast and I did hear the tires barking a little but they never locked up or made skid marks, just pure stopping power. They can produce as much brake dust they want just as long as they stop like that every time I need them to.
