Does anyone know if Ford offered or produced a factory AM/FM/CD player for
the 1996 F250 crewcab? If anyone has one for sale, let me know. I called my local Ford dealer and they told me that their books did not go back that far so they were not sure. They also told me that they can not purchase factory radios direct from the Ford. (sounds kind of strange)
why go with a factory am/fm/cd player? i have found that you can buy an aftermarket (pioneer, sony, alpine, etc.) that sounds a thousand times better for alot less than what you would pay for a factory one. another point to keep in mind is playing burned cds (cd-r & cd-rw). factory cd players 9 out of 10 times will not, especially during that year, play burned cds. i have a 99 f150 ext. cab with a pioneer am/fm/xm/cd player i purchased off of ebay in 2003. i installed it myself with the help of an installation kit from advanced auto parts and a wiring kit as well. very easy to do and looks good too. the new cd players have built in equalizers that make all the difference in sound. upgrading the factory speakers makes a big difference too.
The reason for I want a factory player is personal preference. I like the way they look. They are simple to use. I can easily see and use the buttons. It does not have a bunch of lights flashing and a bunch of features that I will never use. I also am somewhat of a strict factory look type of person. My 1996 F250 crewcab is all original, all factory, and all mint without even so much as a stone chip on it.
If you want CD and keep your factory radio, you might do better to get a 6CD changer with an FM modulator and hide it somewhere so that everything still looks stock.
