I have a 2001 Crew Cab 4x4 5.4L and the rearend has been leaking grease. I stoped by Auto-Zone today to get one and they told me they did not carry it and could not order it. Is the dealer the only place that will have this ? I hate to pay dealer price for a $20 seal. Any one have any suggestions?
Seal for the cover, or are we talking about a seal toward a wheel?
The seal for the cover is a gasket - Pep Boys had it for me. Still, I used a Permatex gasket-maker on both sides of the gasket, and around each bolt hole, to make sure. Many people get by with only a gasket-maker and not the actual gasket.
Remember - Ford now requires synthetic fluid only in the F-150 diff's, and 75W-140 at that.
