More key problems
Ok.key switch was extreamly hard to turn, then would not start unless i played with sterring wheel and shifter,so then i replaced both key switch and ignition switch on collam, now 2 weeks later key switch is again hard to turn and im starting to have trouble starting engine again unless playing with shifter, truck is 84 f-150 302,auto,tilt wheel, had since new,any ideas???
Might try squirting a bit of WD-40 on the key, and work it in and out a bit. The pins inside could just be gummed up and not be falling back as they should. I've seen that happen a time or two.
I had a similar (possibly) problem a few weeks ago. I changed out the key cylinder (it costs about $3 and you can replace in 30 seconds if you have the old key and a 1/8th inch drill bit).
But, my problem was that the electrical connector under the dash had split apart and so I couldn't start the truck at all. There is an aluminum rod that runs from the steering wheel down to a sliding connector. I would say to try to take a look at that.
I have a picture I took of my truck all dissected if you need it.
But, the easiest thing to do is to go buy a replacement key cylinder. Then, put your key in the ignition and turn it to on (just before start). there should be a small hole on the under side of the steering column right enxt to the key cyliunder. Stick a small drill bit (or other hard piece of metal) in there and push. Then you can just slide out the old cylinder and drop in the new one.
