transfer case
There is no "rear lo"....the transfer case either has 2H 4H N or 4L.
When you say "shifts hard into 2nd and im in 4 goin 35"...I assume that means your in 4th gear of the AOD? The AOD has 4 forward gears. If you're going in 4th gear at 35mph then you're still in low range man.
Sounds like you're in low range and the AOD is shifting you through it's 4 gears while you're in low range. It would do that if you've got it in D and in 4L.
The front driveshaft is not suppose to spin in 2wd, hubs unlocked. If the hubs were locked, the shaft will spin but the transfer case would be what's not applying torque to it. Once you shifted it into a gear, it would apply torque to the front end.
You should easily be able to tell the difference between 2H and 4L. If you want to, put the transfer case in 2H and put the gear selector to 1 instead of D. Take off smoothly, the RPMs will come up and the transmission just won't shift out of 1st gear, you've locked it in 1st gear. Now, put the transfer case in 4L and notice how much slower you go? Thats low range. It's ment for off road situations where lower speed and more torque are needed.
I have my off road truck setup to have a lower low range. My truck will only go a few mph in low range 1st gear.
