Went to Nags Head this weekend for some fun and relaxation. Well...Saturday I decided to go out on the beach with my truck. There's a designated section where you can drive your 4x4 out on the shore and fish or whatever. Well this girl that was with me wanted to go too so I started in on the road and found out real quick you need to have 4wd. I got out locked my hubs and away we went. Man...you wouldn't believe all the people that buried their 4x4 out there. I came across one couple in a newer Chevy 4x4. He had never drove on the beach and he buried it PAST the axles. I tried you pull and push but he was sunk. So he said thanks and we headed out on the shore. Well...later on we were heading back to the highway and I saw a couple of trucks off to the side. It was a Ford trying to pull out a Chevy. Seems the guys 4wd wasn't pulling in the Chevy. hehe... So I stopped and helped them out. I got in front of the other Ford pick up and hooked my strap to his truck and started out in 4Lo and in 1st gear. Mind you this truck has the granny first gear in it I tugged and started pulling BOTH trucks in the sand. We got going down the beach aways, me in front pulling and the guy behind me hooked to the Chevy. A guy in big Dodge pulled up next to us and just watched and gave me a big smile and a thumbs up. =) Well...a min or so later we were going along and all of a sudden the guy in the Dodge hollard at me to stop. Seems the Ford behind me had died and I just kept pulling!! lol I didn't know it until he said something. He had his timing set too high and the engine died on him. This hole time people were stopping and taking pictures. It was AWESOME!! I didn't think this truck had that much darn power to it to pull two full size trucks in the soft sand. Well..for extra strength we had the Dodge hook up to me in front and help us out. That was a sight!! THREE trucks pulling out a Chevy!! haha.. I'm glad I drive a Ford. NEVER have I gotten stuck in anything I couldn't get out of on my own. I might go back next month or so and do it again. heheh.... But mind you though..there were other factors besides the torque going on here. I also aired down to 15psi. Once I hit second gear in low range though, that's all she wrote. I just kept pulling and pulling. Kinda felt like being in a truck pull competition. Well...enough bragging. lol Just thought I'd share my experience. Later guys!!

Please don't pull out in front of me! The last thing I want to do is play identify the pieces with you or your car.
I witnessed a similar situation where our 250 Ford 4x4 just went merrily along in the deep sand. A guy with a Chevy dually showed up and proceeded to sink to the axles. We pulled him out three times and each time that boat anchor would drive 10 feet and be just as stuck. I've never seen a vehicle sink so fast and so far as this thing would. He spent the rest of the weekend trying to get back to solid ground before finally getting a local farmer to pull him out with a tractor.
Nothing like "Low range gearing", reguardless of how it is achieved. Been there, done that!
The main problem with dual rear wheel trucks is that they normally do not have enough weight on all of those rear wheels. Set approx 2,500 lbs in the back of one and just watch cut through just about anything.
Just a note: I do not own a dually but have seen what a little weight can do when it comes to dual wheeled vehicles.
Tandems are a different story.
