Well after reading and reading on this site and my fav Bronco forum about you guys with 429/460s... looks like I might have just stumbled across one for $100. Engine looks complete and totally there from the air cleaner on down! 4bbl carb, distributor, even the York compresser and brackets! Nice and clean; still has that non-messed-around-with kind of look. I would be looking at dropping it into my '78 F250 2WD. Bad part is that no one knows if it even ran (it's already out of the car). Going by looks alone it oughta run great, but we all know how that goes! I might just grab it up and think about it later. I suppose the York alone is probably worth half the entry fee? Anyone ever do a compression test with an engine sitting on the ground?
So what all am I going to need here? I assume that since the '78 2WD had the option of a 460... motor mounts should be easy enough to find. I'm betting that oil pan clearance should be okay since it came out of a car and would be going into a truck. I am wondering about exhaust manifold clearance. The truck has a 351M in it now so the bellhousing should bolt up. Anything I'm forgetting about or should know? Thanks for any tips......!!
I don't know what kind of mounts it has on it but if they don't work go get the conversion mounts for a 460 I'm playing with a set of 68 429 mounts right now the exhuast manifolds should work with no problem the pan might give you a problem I pulled a 400M out of a lincon and the car pan would have hit if it wasn't for the 6 inches of lift it out to make the bronco scream have fun man
Adam79... What year is the 429? Post the casting number of the block and heads. 100 green backs is a good deal reguardless. Im not sure about those car exhuast manifolds fitting but you can get truck exhuast manifolds or even headers. Were did you find the engine at?

GOT IT! Turns out it's from a 1973 Ranchero. Don't know if it will run or not and it might be a while until I actually find out. It does turn over with a socket on the crank bolt though. This thing is so original looking it's amazing. 4bbl carb has a rebuild sticker from 12-20-2000. I'll attach a pic here if I can.......
Rigging it up for a compression test out of the car would probably be a pain in the you know what, but, you could easily do a leak down test as it sits and probably get more reliable data. Leak down testers are usually available at tool rental houses. Pull the valve covers and spin the engine with the wrench. Watch all the valves. This won't tell you much but you'll know if the cam is in one piece, and you can check for bent pushrods, stuck valves, and broken springs. Good luck, looks very nice for $100! Hopefully not too nice.
