Has anyone had to replace the factory carpeting in their Expy? My wonderful wife spilled a tupperware bowl full of pork roast juice (i.e. melted fat leftover from cooking a pork roast) in the back of our Expy, and then mopped "most" of it up with a towel. She then left it sit in there for about 4 days in the 95 to 100 degree heat in St. Louis.
Needless to say, I almost lost my lunch when I got in it tonight. It is the worst smell imaginable , akin to a rotting animal carcass. I quickly realized that this odor was sunk deep into the carpet, so I have now removed the carpet from the rear cargo area of the truck, threw it away, and preceeded to use every cleaning agent in the house to clean the floor pan. Thankfully the truck is starting to smell much better.
So, I need to replace the rear carpet in the truck now. Can you get this from the Ford dealer, or is this something that is only available from the aftermarket. I found a couple of web sites claiming to make exact replacements for factory carpeting, does anyone have any experience with these places, and who do you recommend? For the prices they are listing, it looks like I can replace all of the carpeting for under 300 dollars, which I may end up doing if the carpet is good quality.
I'd be interested in responses to this one as well. I've got a lovely fruitpunch colored stain from behind the driver's seat, all the way along the jam to beneath the pedals... (GRRR). I've seen the aftermarkets, but I'm a little leery. Also, how difficult would a replacement be?
Stockinteriors.com sell some of the BEST aftermarket carpet replacements for any vehicle. I have bought from them a few times and recommended them to friends who own cars and everyone was happy. They also can make them in different colors for you too.
One word of advice is if you are unsure about the color, have them send you a free sample - your monitor can be deceiving! The carpet is not really cheap for an aftermarket type but you know the old saying "You get what you pay for".
when i first starting reading into this, i was thinking you were going to replace the original interior w/ the rubber floor inserts (?). i'm not really sure what they call it, but that is what i would want to do. I have a big family, so it would be wise for me to go that route. to me it gives the vehicle more character. easy to clean up those nasty spills. i believe they make the mats just for the cargo area.
If you are short on cash and got a good buddy with a pressure washer, pull out the carpet (you will have to remove the seats of course) and go out and buy a gallon of Simple Green for like $6.00. IT should NOT fade the carpet, it did not fade my seats when i did the same thing. Spray the entire rug down and take the pressure washer and lay it on it. The green will take "MOST" if not all the smell out and the pressure washer will take the stains out. Hope this helps you out some.
Unfortunately, the carpet in sealed in a plastic bag on it's way to a dump right now. It was so bad I was gagging trying to remove it. The pork fat had soaked all the way through the jute padding and had turned rancid with the heat we have been having. Way too far gone for Simple Green.
Thankfully, Ford had the good sense to make the cargo area carpet a separate piece from the rest of the carpet, so I'm only missing the carpet behind the second row of seats. The aggravating part is that we are trying to get rid of this thing, and it seems to be one thing after the other. My wife hit our other car with the front fender of the Expy, and we just had that fixed, the sunroof shade bar came loose and fell back in the headliner, and now I have to replace the carpet.
It's a good thing I love my wife, or I'd sell her and keep the truck.
I bought one from auto-interior.com for my 99 was about $180 shipped, molded and fits great--no pre cut holes though, so youll have to muddle through that one. I had wanted a lighter color and they even called to be sure that I was positive about my choice. Very nice people.
