Ash Trays??

What year did ford eliminate the built in ash trays ? The wife and I both smoke and the cup thing if you got one, don't cut it. The factory in-dash ones were much more conveinately placed and therefore safer to use.

The built-in ash trays disappeared when Ford refreshed the second generation Explorers for the 1998 model year. '91 - '94 they were built-in to the dash and '95 - '97 they were built into the console.

Did the Mountaineers get the refreshed look first? Because my 97 does not have the built in ones.

My 2001 XLS model, which is a very basic model, didn't come with the full length console. So it had an ashtray in the dash (until I took it out and installed a full length console without one).
