Reverse light switch

Has anyone had to repair the reverse light switch on an F250 4x4? If so, is there an easy way to do it without ripping up the carpet and taking off the floor panel?

Take the shifter boot off. It's 4 bolts to the floor to take the boot off. you should have enough room to get to it. I did.

It would depend on if it's an auto or a manual trans. The auto's I'm familiar with do not have a floor pan. Underneath is the only way to get it out. I had mine changed recently when the trans was out to replace the flywheel.

Seems the cable connector is melted. Not sure if it's from hitting the exhaust or not. Can I get to the four bolts without lifting the carpet?

BTW: Can I test the cable by shorting the two wires to see if the lights come on?
