What are you guys running for air pressure in your tires when running empty? I've got a '99 F250, extended cab, long box, Plow package (X) springs in front and F350 springs in the rear running on 265s. My last oil change they set the air pressure at 55 psi in the front and 65 psi in the rear. It seems like it rides rougher now, figure if I run a little lower pressure, might be a little better ride.... Thanks for any info...
I've heard as low as 50 when empty. I set mine to 60 all the way around when empty. Rides decent enough. I personally don't see 5 lbs making a difference.
Too little air, watch for outer wear, too much air, rough ride and center wear.
Remember, it's gonna' be a little rough, it IS a truck....
We have an e350 Chateau wagon and tow a TT often. I keep 70-72# in the front tires and 76-78# in the rear tires. I think the max # for ours is 80#, cold. I just checked the spare last week and it only had about 50# from the factory.
I used the old crayon trick. Take a large yellow wax crayon and draw a line across the tread of all four tires. Next drive you vehicle a hundred feet or so in a straight line. Then check to see the wear pattern. If it still shows on the edges and is worn off in the center...To much pressure. If it's worn in the outside and still shows in the center... not enough pressure.
On my truck, I found it to be 55 up front and 45 in the rear.
I run 60 lbs all around with General Ameri 550 235/85's. I got about 75K on 'em and they have seen their last winter, but they have worn pretty evenly.
