Dis-claimer: this is not mine, I don't get a commission..EBay # 7983078853 87-96 8 ft bed with dual tank fillers. Went and looked at it today, not too bad at all. There are "bubbles" starting to appear above wheel openings, nothing serious yet , has bed liner, tailgate works fine, underside is good. If anyone is looking in the area here it is. George
my bed was "bubbling" and I just touched it with an angle grinder with a sanding disk, hoping to just sand, bondo, prime and paint. HUGE chunks came off
Just inspect it carefully. Sadly, you can't see behind as it's welded closed, which is why they bubble - water gets in there and never leaves.
I just had some accident damage fixed in the front and asked the
body shop how much to fix the blisters above the rear wheels.
He said 500 - 600 per side because the inner wall rusts out before the
blisters appear and he would have to cut out and weld in new steel
inside and out.
yep, that it does. Just went through this myself...
Before and After:
I decided mid-project that I'm too lazy to re-pinstripe the bed, so I blasted the bottom with a nice dark red paint. The fenders now match this scheme - no pinstripes and red on the bottom. Eventually I'll get to the doors and the door sills, now that I have new metal there as well.
