My dad was driving his truck down a winding road. There was a lane stripe painting truck in front of him. Well the truck pulls over to let him pass. I guess they forgot to turn of the paint spray and as my dads truck passed, he got nailed with a shot of yellow paint along the side of his truck.
What could be used to get that paint off? To my surprise, it is a water based paint. One place quoted him $800 to remove it. Any ideas on what they may be using?
Now before you think I'm off topic, I have a suggestion. I wanted to remove the factory striping off my truck, and talked to this guy that worked for a Mazda dealership. He told me that they use Lacquer thinner to remove decals (and it really works). I doesn't hurt the paint, if it has a clearcoat.
I'm wondering if you could use it to remove the splattered paint off the truck.
See if you can find anybody that works with car paints, and ask them what they would use.
The guy I talked to, worked at Ace Hardware and his suggestion save me a lot of time. If you think it might work, you could try a small spot to see if it will remove the paint, and if it doesn't, then stop and find something else.
and, before I forget. If you use lacquer thinner, just make sure you have a good wax handy to put on afterward. It doesn't hurt the finish, but it makes it look hazy, and waxing afterward will get rid of the haze.
I've used kerosene before, however never tried it on newish vehicles with clearcoats. I've removed road paint as well as road tar/asphalt which originated from driving over newly paved roadways.
I have used Goof Off to remove small amounts of road paint. I also used it to remove a scuff my Dad got on his truck when he brushed the door jam of his garrage with the side of his truck.
Try it on a small area first to be sure there is no problem using it on your paint. Wash it off with soap and water and wax it afterword.
Goof Off is available at paint stores or home centers in the paint depatment.
