Rearching...is it really that dumb?

For the rear suspension on an F 350, is it reall all that stupid to have them professionally re-arched and add a helper spring? This is about 1/2 the cost of ONE rear leaf pack, helper springs included. Up front, I wouldnt consider this, especially not with a diesel... but I will never be loading anything in the rear, therefore I considered it...

Don't be too harsh on me...

FYI, 56" pack, 6 leaves in each

Harsh? We're always roses and sunshine

It sounds like you already know that rearching is not the best idea and the springs will re-sag.

BUT, since your talking about the rear springs, don't plan on loading them, and will have a helper spring for support, I think you'll be okay with that plan since your in a money pinch.

Hahaha... No joke... especially with the n00bs, and ESPECIALLY with the rendundant n00bs...

I dunno if Im going to go on with this idea. It is 4x the cost for new leaves... In a year it will be a trail rig only with occasional road usage. I think I will just rearch them for those reasons, but... "Hi, My name is Rob. I have rearched springs, Nice to meet you!"

I don't seen an issue with it in the application you're using them for. They don't seem to ride too great and will sag down the road but for the time being they'll work fine and save you enough cash to fill your tank a few times.

Yeah, a little over 3 fill ups. Damn OPEC.

Ride won't be pretty anyway... I guess Ill be the guinea pig on this forum, since no one else is dumb enough to do this. Well, I guess Ill get pegged with "dumbas s with rearched leaves". Thats grand.
I plan on swapping them out in 2 years if I go through with this.

heating them weakens the steel and makes it brittle

That is pretty much the perfect testimony of what this board is against and a good stereotype of chevy owners...well, its not reall a stereotype if its true, is it?

Man hes dumb, not to offend you...Ok, maybe hes not dumb (although its likely, I wont make that assumption), but hes definately foolish out the wazoo.
