The long beds aren't that bad to drive around town. Yes the turning radius is crappy and you can't get those premo parking spots up front anymore. But if you are towing a fifth wheel a long bed is the way to go. When I was shopping for a truck I also wanted a SB, but couldn't find one, so I got the LB. I got use to the size and it is nice to be able to have a tool box and still have room. I can also say the truck has made me a better driver
Short Bed with a slider/rocker hitch - never had any problems; never had to slide it out. In fact, there have been a couple times that we've said "Boy, I'm sure glad we got the shortbed, or we NEVER would have made it past that TREE/ROCK/POST" - hee hee hee! And, it is nice for parking - parking stalls are 20-ft, and this truck is about 21.5-ft. Wouldn't want to be any longer. P.S. Our generator came inside the trailer. I don't think there would be room to carry one in the truck. ~~~~~TrekChick

I have a 2005 F250 Lariat CC PSD FX4 longbed. I opted for the long bed because I was tired of having standard building materials sticking out the back or worse yet, stacked on the edge of the tailgate. It was great puting 4 X 8 foot sheetrock and plywood completely in the bed and closing the tailgate. I would never go back to the short bed. Besides, you get a 38 gallon fuel tank instead of the 29 gallon that comes with the shortbed. The 05 longbed with coil springs up front turn just about as sharp as the 04 shortbed does with leaf springs.
Personally I think the longbed looks more balanced with a crew cab and like the poster above -- It is so nice to be able to go to my local home improvement store and load full sheets of plywood or 2x4x8's. Its kind of like storage space in your house. If the room is there you will find use for it.
I was absolutely going to get an 05 CC SRW short bed, and after driving both, I opted for the long bed. I'm very happy with the LB and have gotten used to the parking (not a big deal). I have a number of utility trailers and backing them is more difficult due to the longer wheelbase, but still OK. Issue of tight camping areas would seem a real issue, but a 5th wheel would work better (I don't RV, just tent/backpack).
