Seized distributor?

I just bought a new 79 CC with a 400 in it. It's in pretty good shape but has done a lot of sitting. It runs OK but I think the timing is retarted.. I went to check and change it and I can't rotate the distributor. There's a 1/2" bolt on the bottom that looks like it holds it in place.. loosen that and I can't even turn it with channel lock pliers or a crow bar I'm guessing that it's seized? Any ideas?

Thanks!

If it were me, I would just put some Marvel 3-in-1 oil around the base of the distributor and let it sit for a while. Or just use some WD-40 or PB Blaster.....

Yeah, it's soaking in 'moovit' right now, we'll see if it does any good It's odd cause everything else seemed to be fine on this truck (bolts and stuff)..

Thanks

I had the same problem on my 73 351C. Nothing worked (soaking, heat, crow bar, punching up from bottom where oil pump drive shaft connects. I finally went to Sears and got a chain wrench. Removed the vacumn cannister and put wrench around top of housing..took a good pull and it finally broke free. This is a last resort as you may trash the dist housing but it will work...

I bought my '78 from a guy who had it in at Ford, and they had tried to take the dist. out to see if the timing chain was shot. They somehow managed to break the dist. shaft in two, and mangle the entire dist. housing! It was a real pain to pull, but with enough force and a punch and chisel it came out!

Don't force it! Just find a bigger hammer

It happens all the time. I have had luck with a flat nail puller under the bottom collar to pry it up a little. Then let it soak in your favorite solvent. A large pipe wrench is also helpful.
