IDIDIT column ? again

Sorry, I lost this in my notes and search doesn't work well for me. I'm going to Goodguys this weekend in search of a deal on a column among other stuff. '53 F100 with Volare, how long of a column. Also what length drop works well. Thanks.......

I used a Toy box with my I.I. column, bought the 32" version, but then decided it was too long and cut it to 30" which is just right to me. Drop will depend on seat height and wheel diameter. Again I used a 3" drop as recommended, but with my 15" wheel and capt. chairs I think I would have prefered a 3-1/2 or 4" drop to not have to tilt the column as much. Drops are pretty inexpensive so I'd recommend waiting until you do your install then order the length that works best with your setup. Don't forget to also pick up a floor mount.

Hi

On this 56 with a Volare susp I had a 32 Ididit column with a floor shifter didn't like the floor shift so I ended up using a Flaming River 32 inch column with a column mounted shifter (Ididit floor shift model is 2 inch dia but there column shift is 2 1/4 inch dia. Flaming River column shift is 2 inch dia so I didn't have to change my column mounts) but I do believe for my seating position I could use a 31 inch (they don't make it and I don't have enough nerve to cut this column)

I have some pictures in my gallery.

If you are using the II column with the DD shaft (don't know if they offer any other shaft?) shortening it is rather easily done, took less than an hour including removing and reinstalling. Primary tool is a 4" angle grinder. II wanted ~ 75.00 plus 2 way shipping to do it. If anyone wants to tackle theirs I can walk you thru it.

In my 56 with Volare: 30 Long ,2 borgesons, 4-1/2" long DD shaft, move floor hole up to top, swiivel lower mount, used 4-1/2" drop to allow more drop when seat all the way back. A word of warning: Iditit sent out a lot of new tilt units with the bell holes in the wrong place and the turn signal lever can not go down ( left) and they say " Sorry, use a dremel to repair ( elongate hole) or ship it back under warranty for repairs" Install lever before buying.
