RPMs @70mph?

2005 6.0 Auto transmission, 373 rear end.

Driving down the highway with a friend yesterday. He looked over and commented that 2000rpms @70 seemed high to him. I figured it was about right. Is that in line with what you see?

Thanks always.

Just picked up my 05 F350 CC 4x4 Lariat 6.0 on Friday, so I am looking at those types of things to get familiar with the truck.

I believe that at 2000 RPM I am close to 72 - 74 mph, noticed it yesterday on the way home. I have the 3.73 std gears, 18" rims.

Damn! I think getting a 4.30 may have been a mistake. My tach shows about 2300 at 70 but that is with tires 8% taller than stock and so far, some local radar setups have shown my speedo to be correct NOW which means I was overreading by 8% stock. I have taken no trips yet so I will not know until then what my mileage is and how the truck runs for distance with the 4.30. Good thread! THNX!!!!

I have 4:30's and I am right about 2200 with stock tires. I love the way it tows my 13K trailer and would choose these gears again!

Mine (3.73 5sp TS) runs ±2000RPM @ 70mph on the speedo also, but I have noticed once or twice that when I pass those radar speed trailers that display your speed, the sign reads 2 or 3 mph slower than my speedo does.

373 rear 70mph is around 1900 rpm on mine

I try to keep my rpm below 2000 to save on fuel (especially now at 2.35 at gallon)unless I need the Ooomph to climb a hill or blow the doors off of a chevy

Towing is a whole other story and all bets are off.

I still cruise at 70mph when towing but I havent noticed the rpms as it goes up and down with the trailer in tow/haul . even a slight incline will cause the tranny to gear down and boost the rpms up to around 2500

BTW I only use tow/haul when I am on hilly roads... straight long sections of flat interstate I don't use it at all. But then I am only towing around 8,000 lbs

Yup, I think I am onto something here with the stock setups overreading speed and therefore mileage and cheating on the warranty. Hate to break it to ya'll but your mileage may be worse than you think when you find out how far off your speedo/odo is.
