I looking for some advice on buying pressure washer. Paint prep on a small porch plus cleaning the driveway, car trailer, engines, and patio will be the use.
Gas or electric? Name brands? Min PSI/GPM? I would like to stay under $300
You have to ask yourself how much would you REALLY use one. If you do in fact have enough useage to justify it go as big both psi & gpm as you can. Check with some of the rental houses in your area, try a few and see what kind of deal they will make on a rental unit. A word of caution , a 4000 psi machine WILL peel wood from a deck if you are not careful. Greg
Just a word of caution: I didn't realize that mine needed to have some sort of antifreeze left in it over winter. Evidently there is a little water left in it after use. They should have a big, red warning sticker on it. Brady
i would not go over 3,000 psi . my friend has a trailer mounted one that puts out 7,500 psi and 9.4 gpm it will do a 30 stall parking lot in a hour and it only cost 24,000.00.
Mine is a 2600 PSI. I use it for everything. ATV's, truck, boat, concrete, house, etc. Get one with a variable nozzle. Mine will eat through concrete if you turn it to stream, but it doesn't damage paint or even canvas if you open it up.
DO NOT...I repeat...DO NOT get a Karacher electric unit! They are junk. We have one, and there is a hole in the pump or something like that. Its seen very little use anyways. All its good for now is washing mud off of shoes...
When buying one I was told to get one with a Honda engine, so I did. 2300 psi and it is a simoniz model, works great, I use it for my concrete driveway, siding on the house walkways, deck and for cleaning all the crud of old cars or trucks I drag home (easier to work on clean stuff than dirty)
I got a 2300 PSI with a briggs and stratton engine a few years ago. I do some pressure washing side, mainly cleaning vinyl homes before closing, and it works great for that. Also handles the concrete really well. Having said that if I could do it all over again I'd just fork out the cash and go get one with a honda engine. Just be warned, they aren't very fuel efficient, combine that with low tank capacity, and the run time per tank isn't very long on most models. Also, you will find that the standard 25 ft hose you normally get with one isn't long enough, buy another 25'er with a coupler for reasonable reach.
I wouldn't be in such a hurry to buy one simply because it has a Honda motor. I have a DeVilbiss out in my garage with a Honda on it and it is a POS. I changed the pump out once after it quit making presssure ($175) and the replacement broke within minutes of firing it up. Lousy design of the pump and it is an oddball pump so it can't even be replaced with a different type. It's for sale for free if anyone wants to mess with it - paid over $300 for it and used it twice....
Hehe the problem is it's a Devilbiss water pump. The honda motor on it is as good as any for the purpose.
That's exactly my point - it isn't the motor in the pressure washer that is important, it's the pump. No doubt Honda's are great motors but if the pump keeps crapping the bed, what good is it. For most homeowner uses, you'll never wear out the motor anyway.....
