Hello, I know this is a Ford forum, But my question refers to a 1985 GMC Vandura 1500 van. here's the problem. I just put this vehicle on the road after driving it for approx, 1 hr it just stalled and died! when I went to try and start again I got nothing not even a click, so I let it sit for a minute turned the key and it cranked over and started, after a few seconds it stalled again. And again, I tried to start it and got nothing not even a click.
there must be a short somewhere?? I was wondering if there was a short in the ignition cylinder would that cause the vehicle to shut down (stall)?? the only reason I ask is that the horn will work only when the van is not running, if I start the van and hit the horn, it won't work.
what I'm going to do today, is jump the starter, and by-pass the ignition cylinder and switch, to see if it will start and stay running??? then from there I will test the alternator???
any help in pinning down what could be wrong will be a great help.
My mistake the starter does work, and yes I will check all ground wiring from the engine to the frame. tomorrow i'll replace the dist cap and rotor and new wires?? I do think it can be the ignition switch??? not sure?
thanks for the reply! keep them coming til I pin this down.
