i don't know the chiggers range, but i thought it was anywhere there was tall grass. i know they're all over Texas. sounds like Birdhunter has had some experiance with them perhaps.

My bad, I asked somone up here and i guess there here too.
Maybe all those years runnin around the farm in boots kept
me from gettin them, i was even wearin shorts. The only
irritating thing that iched me was I know whatcha thinkin
nettles huh.

Yes, in Southern Illilnois we have em. And yes I have had several run ins with em, mom always got out the nail polish and all was gone afterwards.

And Yellow Jackets, hornets and other things that sting like you know what. Wet the sting and dab baking soda on it, at least that's what Grandma did anyway and it seemed to work well.

And Copperheads and cotton mouths as big as your freakin arms. Rattlesnakes the size of a mans legs and we have bobcats and despite what the IDNR says there are panthers, cougars and mountain lions in this area (like Bobby Pinson's song, "Don't Ask Me How I Know").

I know this may be a little ex post facto, but when cutting hay for days on end we would put diesel around the cuffs of our pants, on our jeans @ the waist and some on our ball cap. Kept almost everything away, only a few squito bits here and there.

yeah, if the diesel works on killing the grass, or if i have to go back out ther eagain for anyhting, i'm gonna dust my legs with sulphur.

good news though, after keeping on the benadryl meds and cream, my bites aren't itching as much anymore. stil alittle once in a while, but nowhere near wake me up at strange times scratching....from past attacks, i remember it takes about a week for them to go away, and a little longer for the red marks to dissapear. my legs look pretty bad, covered in bright red bites, but whatever, at least i can stand waerin jeans again. thanks again for all the tips, i'll have to keep them in my memory bank for the future.

Birdhunter, my mom n grandmother have done the baking soda thing for as long as i can remember as well. does work like a charm. too bad last bee sting i got i was driving and he got me on my arm....talk about a surprise. got all the big snakes, and cats too. dad was on the ground with a cougar whie turkey hunting in south texas years ago. he was up in the deer blind REALLY fast. it never saw him.

ya'll have a good one, thanks again
