automatic transmission question
I am about to spend a lot of money to overhaul the 302 on my 93 F-150. I noticed the overdrive light on my gearshift **** started to flash on and off when I turned off the overdrive on my transmission. I thought I read something about this on the forum. Am I about to be replacing my transmission, too?

The tranny may be OK, I would solve that OD light problem first, it could be a bad speedometer circuit, the computer gets a signal from the speedo, and may be confusing the computer as to what speed the truck is traveling, which in turn, tells the engine to do oddball things. I would try to pull the stored codes from the ECM and solve as many problems as you can before the swap. It is very frustrating to install a new engine and still have nuisance check engine lights.

We do have a transmission forum. Normally, any transmission questions belong in that forum, but since this question is just about the light...i'm going to leave it here in this forum for now.

The engine has a cracked head caused by the No. 8 cylinder. Was planning on replacing both heads. The block was just fine, according to the mechanic. I'm beginning to think its just the light, because I would get up to 45-48 mph and press the button and it would downshift smoothly into third. Also, just had fluid and screens replaced at 110,000 miles.
Talked to another transmission guy and he said a bad running engine such as mine will make people think they are having transmission problems.
