Okay, I screwed up and thought I was getting a great deal on a lift. I bought a 6.5 all spring lift by Pro comp. After reading your thoughts I am having bad thoughts. I will try and cancel my order but if I cannot is there an chance I might be happy? Do I even need to install it? Is it really that bad? I have an 03 power stroke crew cab and I really LOVE my truck, I do not want to destroy the ride. I do very little off roading and basically just want the look. Thanks. I know I should have checked here first, SORRY.
Well, there is always E-bay. If you go that route, and want to stay within a decent budget, get a Superlift or Skyjacker lift. If you want to spend more money, go with the Donahoe. Lots of folks will have different opinions on this.
You could always install it and see for yourself. A lot of the ride has to do with the shocks you choose. It may be cheaper to change shocks to some adjustables. Now, if it's a case of springs being too stiff, then your kinda screwed for ride quality.
I running Pro Crap even with good high end Bilstein 5100 shocks it sucks not so much the leaf springs is getting the track bar bracket to fit and you'r track bar is going to be to short so youm have to go with a adj track bar.
Go Skyjacker I ran them in the past I loved the ride I was running the rancho 5000 back then.
I won't be much help regarding their lift kits. But for what it's worth I have their reservoir shocks at all four corners. And I'm very happy with them.
I just put on a 4in lift from Extreme Supensions (Dick Cepeck) I had no problem with the track bar . Maybe because it's a 4in.I fill for you. I talked with alot of people about Pro Comp and others befor getting mine. The cost are all over the place. I payed 750. shipped includes shocks, boots, 5 leaf front springs ect..The ride is nice. I guess I didn't know how bad the front springs were. Good luck Hope you can return the kit.
You may be alright with the wight of the PSD. Other lift kits have different spring rates for the v-8, v-10 and PSD because of the wight of the engines. Pro-comp im 99% sure they have one spring rate for all superduty's. Thats why people running a pro-comp on a v-8 might hate it and someone running it on a psd might feel it to be great. If i were you return it and spend 400 bucks for the added quality of some of the high end lifts. Ride quallity will be better.
I have the procomp 6.5 lift. I actually like it. Its stiffer than stock but, with a big load, i always was sagging in the rear so much with stock, it works good for me. Now when i drop a 15k trailer to it it only drops a couple inches.
I installed the Pro Comp 4" on my 2000 sb cc. I like it. Ride is better than with stock junk front springs. Es9000 shocks. Can't compare with others, certainly not disappointed. Simple to install, everything fit great. If you still have your 6.5" kit, I wouldn't hesistate. You'll love it.
I have the DR 6 inch lift with the optional springs in back. My opinon the ride is better then the stock system I took off. Using DR shocks and stabilizer. Photos in my gallery.
