trailertow pkg.

I currently own a 1993 F-150 with a 302. Under the ash tray inside is a adapter that has four wires going into it(male end. I am trying to figure out what it is? Any suggestions?

If you have the factory tow package those are the wires for wiring up your electric brake controller. Under the rear of the truck you should find another connector for the wires (7 wires could be in two connectors) for wiring the brakes, running lights, right and left turn, back up, trailer battery charge circuit, and ground. You should have received a wiring diagram and wire kit for both the under dash and rear when you bought the truck. If you didn't get it new, the the original owner probably still has them. You can go to Ford and have them get you a wiring kit for your year and model. It still should be available. If not you will still need a wiring diagram so that you can wire it yourself.

With your truck you should have gotten a separate connector and set of wires to plug into the under dash connector. The colors of the wires that come with the separate harness I will try to remember. Each of the wires should have an attached label identifying what each one is for. One of the wires is blue and is the one for the trailer brakes. The other wires are Red for continuous 12v to the Brake controller, and another wire is for connecting to the brake lights, the fourth is ground. The red and blue wires are large, like #8 and the other two are like #12. You need to connect your brake controller to trailer brakes wire to the blue one. The red 12v goes to the brake controller 12v feed. The other ones go to the brake controller to brake lights connector, and the last one goes to the brake controller ground. When you press your brake pedal you will energize a solenoid in the brake controller that will circuit frm the cbrake controller to the barkes through the blue wir and to the brake lights through the brake light feed. Understand that pressing the brake pedal obviuosly will activate yor bake lights, but the brake controller connection allows you to manually apply your trailer brakes using the brake controller lever and at the same time activating your brake lights.

Again you should have received a wiring diagram with your truck. If you still need help on the wiring, I can look at my wiring diagram that came with miy truck and give you wiring instructions.
