are my timing gears going?
Just bought a 88 f-150 with the inline 6. While driving home the other day she all of the sudden started clattering almost sounding like a deisel at ide. Sounded like the valve train was off. Went to check the timing for the gears by placing at TDC and looking at the dist (about 1 cyl off). The engine still runs ( I limped her home) . Has any one had the gear go only enough to make it run rough? And is there anything else I should look for before I dig into it in a couple of weeks?
