more starter trouble

I have a 77 F250 with a standard 4 speed and A 351M
I will try to make this as short as I can. With no warning the starter does not spin. Just clicking.I read a post to test. Using a jumper wire I shorted the solenoid.(Batt to starter side) clicking. Replaced the solenoid no change. Removed the starter and Batt and had them checked. They checked the Batt under load and it was good. The starter also spins. Before replacing them I cleaned all wires with sandpaper. After replaceing the starter it spines great. After setting for a half hour it happen again.Tryed jumping it with no secuess.I put it in high gear and rocked it back and forth and it spins. let it set and it just clickes. Could the starter still be bad.I don't know what test the parts house does. I don't think rocking would change the starter, But just maybe
Sure could use you help Don

Check the connection where the ground wire from the battery bolts to the block. It may be loose or corroded.

This clicking sound you are hearing. Is it coming from the starter? If so, it sounds like it is getting power and is trying to engage the flywheel.

The next time it does it, put a ratchet and socket on the big bolt on the lower crankshaft pulley, and see if you can turn the engine. Sometimes if you push down on the fan belt, you can turn the engine with the fan if it's a solid no-clutch type.

You have checked all the obvious, so this one may get interesting. Has anything happened lately? Like recently just put this motor in or just worked on soemthing in that area? Or did it just all of a sudden start happening? Did you just buy this truck?

I had a new motor put in by ford.It only has 18000 on it and have had no problems. When I took the starter in to have it checked it had a "rebuilt" sticker on it.
I wired the trailer brakes when I first got it and everthing workes fine with no problems.
My brother law barrow the truck to move and it happen

If the clicking is coming from the starter area(like it's banging into the flywheel, but not turning the engine over) then it's going to be the starter, or there is something wrong with the engine.

If the clicking is coming from the starter relay, and nowhere else, then it is either a connection problem(you have checked these) a battery problem(you checked that), or something still may be wrong with the starter.

why is it that starters go out at the worst times like in a parking lot at night while its raining?working on a car in any of those situations sucks but starters always choose at least two of those at a time. it's like your car is saying "go to hell"

It sounds like you have covered all the bases and it's time to replace the cables, starting with the ground cable, a bad cable can look OK on the outside but toast on the inside.
