Here I go again. I need some help on tire size and axle ratio.
which is my best bet and can anyone tell me how the tire size effects the axle ratio. This all has to do with towing a fifth wheel or a trailer, 27-30 ft.
1 axle ratio 3.92 with 20" tires
2 axle ratio 3.73 with 17" tires
I'm kind of new to all this, I have been told that if I have a axle ratio of 3.92 with 20" tires its the same as a 3.73 with 17" tires but more power.

Jimmac, here is the problem I see. You are supplying RIM size with no tire size. Get the numbers off the TIRES not the rims. We need all 3 to figure it out. I'll give you an example. A 235/75/R15 is ~29.5 inches tall. From that we can calculate the actuall final ratio with the tires from the rear end gear.
