Say, y'all have been a great help when I converted my 300 I6 to a 351W; but I'm still struggling with the alignment of my pulleys (2 v-belts). I keep trying to run string around and figure out if it looks straight, then I do some shiming and think I've got her lined up; but when I get my belts on, I'm still off line. Is there a point of reference that I can measure from to get an accurate distance to set my pulleys? This stuff is driving me nuts!

The first thing I would make sure of is the crank pulley and the water pump are right on the money, then line the rest up with that. I used a small 90deg. square to line my surpentine system up and it's a good thing I checked it cause I had to shim the pwr. steering bracket out 1/8 inch.
V belts will be a pain but take your time, you've done a hell of a job so far.....Glad to hear you're runnin cooooooool.

See Ya,
Moe

Hey, I think I got it last night. I measured everything off the radiator. It seemed to be the only reference plane that remained constant. Anyway, I shimmed the Power steer 3/4" and the A/C about 1/2" and it looks good (sounds good too). My PS pump is a little twisted top to bottom so the belt goes on nice and straight but exits almost a 1/4" closer to the engine. I think it's as close as I can get, unless I ruin the bearings or start squeeling, I'm going to leave it alone and stay out of the engine for a little while.
