power steering/hydro boost question
I have a question for you guys regarding the steering and brakes on my truck. I recently had a lift kit installed on my truck and I opted for a Hydraulic Ram Assist unit to help steer my 40" tires. Upon getting my truck back from the lift shop about 4 days later my transmission totally gave up on me and would not up shift while driving on a busy road with lots of cars behind me so i had to give it gas to keep up with traffic and my truck was literally redlining for about 4 minutes untill i had a chance to pull over, but here's the thing.. .. .. when i got the first chance to release the throttle my rpms dropped to idle and i lost my power steering and my brakes and i could not stop or steer my truck and I almost took down some poor bushes that were in front of a nice city building.
I had to pull the steering wheel as hard as i could and push the brakes practically with both of my feet to stop the darn truck, now everything works fine if and when the rpms go up over about 1000, but its undriveable because obviously you have to let up on the throttle at some point or another and its to dangerous.
The shop where I got my truck lifted will be fixing this issue for me since im going to go ahead and say "hey your uuhh hydraulic thingy wont work dude" and play stupid, I actually already notified them about it but i havent had the chance to get it towed to their shop yet and they told me it could be an air pocket in the lines some where. I have no idea how the power steering pump works nor how it corralates (spelling?) with the brakes. If anyone can explain to me how this works or maybe help me diagnose the problem incase the guys at the shop cant I would really appreciate it, I just spent almost 20 grand on my truck to make it look better and I have it parked in front of my house, I love my truck so much I think im just going to stay home all weekend grab a chair grab a case of beer and just stare at it all weekend long
