Hey guys, When I bought my truck, they did not give me keyless entry remotes, I was wondering if I can get ahold of a remote, can I program it to work with my truck??
The big question will be if the truck even has the keyless remote module. I want to say it's under the dash just left of the steering column. Maybe someone can help identify it.
But if you do have it, Ebay usually has them. Then it's a matter of getting into the truck, turn off/on the key 8 times in 10 seconds, then hit a button on the remote. Hit a button on a second remote if you have it. Then tap the brakes. The door locks should pop up/down to confirm. I did this same prgramming when I bought one of the door keypads, which operates just like a remote.
Yes exactly like 92Merc said. If you get them from the dealer (I just bought one because my 2000 f150 only came with one key and remote) they cost 30.00$. the owners manual tells you exactly the same way to do it.
Now if you need a key be prepared to spend about 150.00$ at the dealer. (ouch)
I got a buddy that just got an 05 F250 and he got remote start on it so they gave him new remotes, so he has 2 new factory remotes still in the bag that hes gonna give me, so, i might as well try it!
Don't even mess with dealer keys/remotes. There is a locksmith who sells them on eBay. I got two keys and two remotes for $90. Cut them for free at Wal-mart, programmed them myself for free. To program the remotes, get all of the remotes you want programmed together and in the truck. Turn the key from "OFF" to "RUN" (not start) 8 times within 10 seconds with the last time leaving the key in the "RUN" position. The door locks should cycle if you did this correctly. Within five seconds, press any key on the first remote to programmed. The door locks should cycle. If you have more than one remote to program, push any button on the next remote within five seconds of the first. Again, the locks will cycle. Keep doing this until all your remotes are programmed, and then turn the key to the "OFF" position. The door locks should cycle once more and you're done.
BTW, if the door locks don't cycle after performing the drill discussed above, then your truck doesn't have the keyless remote module (that receives signals from the remote keyfob), which means any and all remotes won't work.
Just wanted to say Tks for the tip. My remote was not working after I had a computer fault and reset it by disconnecting the battery. (Another story) Nonetheless ole faithfull FTE to the rescue. 10 clicks of the ignition and I have my convenience option back.
I noticed that Autozone had a poster on their front door advertising remotes with free programing. I had stopped to get a 3/8 drive swivel and noticed it. You may want to check there.
Heck Ebay has them for cheap, I just received two keys for nine dollars, (normally 30.00$ for one at Ford). they also had remotes I beleve it was two for 15.00 i could be wrong though.
