Using oil

No oil on the ground and does not smoke. keep having to add oil every couple of days, dealer said it was from a dirty air filter does this sound right?
Any thoughts on this would be great. 7.3 02/550 fire truck

Could be. With the air filter clogged, there would be a greater suction on the Crank case ventilation, which may have sucked some of the oil right out of the engine.

That filter would have to be really dirty! How many miles were on the filter and the motor?

The truck has 23,200 on it and the filter didn't look that bad could still see the white paper when bending it open.

I personally don't buy the air filter story the dealership tried to sell you. Being a fire truck does it get floored wide open as soon as the doors open on the fire house? If so I would imagine that would cause some oil to burn before it's warmed up. Alot of diesels will have a little bit of blue smoke that is hard to see when in the drivers seat, until warmed up.

Well you are right it doesn't get a chance to warm up. It is started then driven no waiting. But that give me the thought that maybe we should try keeping it pluged in to keep the block warm.
