I have a 79 150 with a 9in. 44 and coils up front. I also have a set of dana 60 out of a 250 I also have the springs but not the hangers or shackles for them what all do I need to put them in my truck I currently have 35 in tires with 4 in lift and 3.50 gears the new 60s have 4.10 in them what tire size am I going to need to be able to cruise at about the same rpm and how much of a lift kit am I going to need to clear them any help would be great.
To answer your question about the springs for D-60's. I would ditch the front springs and weld new lower coil buckets in place of spring perches on the front axles. I say this because it sounds like you already have the lift kit. So I would reuse the coil springs, plus they articulate better than leaves. As for the rear, I would buy new shackels and hangers for an F-250 and bolt them to the frame.
As for gearing and tire size. The original size tires were equivalent to 235/75R15 (29").
You say you have 35" tires with the 3.50:1 gears. Your effective gear ratio is:
29/35 x 3.5 = 2.90:1
With the 4.10:1 gears, your effective ratio is now 29/35 x 4.1 = 3.40:1
This is almost where the factory set it : 29/29 x 3.5 = 3.50:1
Myself personaly, I would leave the 4.10's with the 35" tires. This would raise the cruising rpm some though. You could switch to 37" tires which would help some. 37's
would put you about in the middle of where you are now and the 4.10/35" combo.
You would probably need to go to a tire over 40" to retain the rpm you now have with those gears.
I have heard that D60's will make your truck sit a little higher than the the half ton stuff, maybe 1-2". I would check on that. If you go with the 37's, I would think you could get away with a little fender trimming or cut out flares. Hope this helps .

Reason: spelling
I was out looking at them and even if I cut the plates off the 44 and welded them on the 60 the larger diameter of the 60 will interfere with trying to clamp down the bars anyone have an idea for me?
