i'm looking to make my side windows removeable. i'm wanting to use a resin like the Lexan resin that the drink containers are made of, but dont know if that will meet the DOT requirements, has anyone heard of anyone besides Nascar using this as an automibile window?
well i've been doing alot of research in this project, and i think what i'm gonna do now, is take my glass to a shop equipped to drill it, and maybe just bolt the windows to the body, if it doesnt look like that will work, i'm thinkin that i mighttry and make a bracket that i can use to hold the windows to the body. (i'm doubting that i can keep the windows waterproof if they are just bolted to the body tho)
here is my idea, get them drilled glue some large metal washers to the outside of the holes, to keep from cracking the glass, then get some weather strippping like what you use for car doors put that in the window seam, so when you put the windows in and tighen them down they will be air/watter tight
I'm not 100% sure here, but I believe that those windows are the tempered glass, and you can drill holes after it's been tempered...I think I'll shatter. I busted the extended cab window out of one of my Rangers that had the tip out style ones. I found a non-tip out used glass, but was told you couldn't drill holes in it... Like I said, not 100% sure, but might have to check into it....
