Ok my dad has a Kenwood KR-795 AM/FM reciever. that hasn't been plugged in in probally 3 years. He gave it to me to put in my room. It's the type with the big wood case with the glass front door and seperate CD and Tape decks. A big SOB. Probally mid 90's.
Well the reason it was unplugged was when you turn it on it will come on like normal then turn off in like 2 sec. then the standby light flashes. The fuse is good.
I'd really like to fix it. The tape deck and CD changer work awsome right now i have them plugged up to my other reciever.
The reason i'd like to fix it is because all the inputs and out puts on the back my reciever only has one set of inputs. and my computer,tv,and cd changer are all hooked into it. I'd like to hook it up right.
it has a short in it somewhere. what you are hearing is the "protection" cuircut not allowing the amp to come on. double check your hook up, make sure no wires are crossed or touching each other. it could also be an internal short which would require you to take it to a repair shop
The things you have circled look like power resistors.
Some boards do not have all the component locations populated.
Check all the transistors to see if they are all prpoerly attached to the heat sinks. They could be heating up & tripping the cicuit protection.
I had a broken Sony that sat for 5 years before I got around to troubleshooting it.....turned out to be a shorted NPN-PNP pair. $20 to fix....now it provides music at my pool!
Is there an audio shop withing 30 miles? Many times they are listed as sales shops, but they do have a repair shop they can refer you to. I'm not talking about Best Buy, or CC. But a small shop that only deals in audio.
You need to replace that resistor - it may have something to do with the power supply circuits, or one of the output channels, who knows? But it isn't going to work without it.
PS: Good work on the visual inspection phase. I hope that's the only problem.

PS: I'm working the problem - stand by (no pun intended)

Is there a schematic diagram attached anywhere on the inside of the case?
Is there a component number marked on the circuit board near where it was mounted (Should look like: R-### or something like that in small letters)
No diagram but there are numbers next to the 3 termanals on the circuit board.
there is nothing next to the first prong. but above the middle prong there is W49 and below the middle prong W54. The 3rd prong below it has CP2. And a box around the 3 prongs.
The other resistor i circled in the picture has CP1 below the 3rd prong. Don't know if it is relevent to the other resistor.
