Hey guys I was wondering if you could give me some ideas about something. I recently replaced my flywheel, '86 300cid c6 auto, and I have been having starter problems. I go to start my truck and my engine is running but the starter gets stuck or something and keeps running. Now I thought it was a clearence issue, and I made the holes bigger on the starter and it was fine for awhile, but now it's doing it again. Usually I can slam the hood and it will stop, but now it keeps going till I disconnect the pos cable, but I wait for a few seconds and try to reconnect it and it trys to do it again. I just put a new starter on it cause this problem actually liquidfied the last one...a stinky mess. And the new one started fine..but a day after I put it in it's doing it too, bare in mind this is only every once in awhile not all the time. The only idea I think it could be is maybe the relay. What do you guys think, you've not led me a stray yet. Please help.
I'm curious to see what others think also. The same thing happened to me when I shut the truck off after about a 20 mile drive and then went to start it up again about 5 minutes later. It sounded horrible, like someone was holding the key in the start position. I've replaced the relay. It has only done it once so I don't know if the relay was sticking or not. Any other ideas would be great.
Believe it or not it happened again this morning as I was leaving for work. I started it and it went crazy again. So this time instead of disconnecting the pos cable I smacked the relay once and it quit, so i think that's the problem..but I'm still open to suggestions. Thanks for the help guys, yes it is interesting to see what everyone says about it..I would like to know if it's a common problem or not.
