Buy the ZF6speed, There isn't a PM cost that high for the manual transmission.
"Drone Leader" What rear end did you want in the truck you built on the Ford Website?
Those of you not liking the fuel smell on your hands. Wear gloves when fueling up. Even the cheap medical ones. I just keep a few in the door then throw them away after fueling. Oh, and with more than a 600 mile range per tank, I only fuel up twice a month. Now that's nice.
One thing I've found lately is that most of the "premium" diesel here in Southern Ontario is only 1 cent/ litre more than the regular. But the real bonus is that they tend to pump it for you ... an easy way to beat the smell of diesel on your hands. The Shell premium diesel seems to get slightly better milage than the regular stuff, too.
You know, tho, it's funny, but one reason to get a diesel is the quiet, smooth ride. When it's idling, there's no hiding that you're burning oil, but when the truck is at speed, it can take almost any hill (with a load) without downshifting... and even the general engine noise is deceptively quiet at speed.
Thanks for the replies. Not trading the Explorer but needing a second vehicle.Saw a F-250 diesel on a car lot and needed more info before checking it out. Thanks again for the help.
Huh? The complete clutch, flywheel, disk, and throwout bearing are less than $800. And the rest is just shop labor unless you do it yourself.
I met a guy at the truckstop in Post Falls Idaho last week. 2000 F350 7.3, 6spd. 459,000 miles and the engine and transmission had never been opened up. He's the original owner. OK, those are a lot of freeway miles towing his toy hauler. He's retired and pretty much lives in the trailer. But even if I can get say, 180,000 miles out of my clutch, I don't see need for more than say $1,600 to get the clutch upgraded to the components from the F450 6.0. You can buy a complete ZF6 for less than $2,000. Four grand to R&R a clutch? Now that's highway robbery.
Parts quotes mean nothing, your forgetting the LABOR. Then again maybe I wasn't clear weather it was 2WD, or 4X4, either way costly proposition in my opinion.
That's weird. I'm guessing that you were building an 06'....

I was playing with an '06 build, but apparently suffering from too much blood in my caffiene system. Here's what I get with build site today ('06s):
V8 auto or manual: 3.73, 3.73 LS, or 4.10 LS
V10 auto or manual: 4.10, 4.10 LS or 4.30 LS
PSD auto or manual: 3.73 or 3.73 LS only!
Not much of a choice if I pick PSD. No matter what, it'd be Limited Slip in any case.
Just picked up my '06 6.0 4 X 4 with 3.73 LS. 4.10 and 4.10 LS were options I could have ordered. My truck is a CC long bed Latiat so that may have made a difference. (More quiet than my wife's Buick La Sabre at 70mph and auto shifts maybe to smooth)
