recently purchased a 00 EB. it has 75k on it. I have a few issues that the dealership is taking a look at now. first: when putting into reverse, there is a shudder, sometimes slight, sometimes very noticeable. I was finally able to get the tech to notice it and he said he would have to research it. that was last week. they have it again today to follow up. i'll be contacting them in the morning. it seems to be worse when facing uphill. i don't really notice it when shifting into other gears. Next: there is a knock when driving over speed bumps or even my back yard, seems to be coming from the rear, the spare seems to be tight. Last: It has a vibration, mostly from 10-45 mph. feel it in the seats, and floor. I read on a previous post about the driveshaft. does it tend to have problems on this model? Sorry, so many questions, but i'm calling them in the morning, and i need some ammo. I'm trying not to get discouraged. i love this thing, but i hope these can all be resoved .
Your vibration is most likely the driveshaft or a bad u joint. The noises when shifting to reverse could easily be the same thing or in the rear end. My first guess would be a Ujoint. As for the rattle in the back-check your shocks. My 99 Expy had the same rattle that I chased for a year before replacing my shocks. After replacement, everything was quiet. It ended upthat my shock bushings where worn inside. They felt tight and looked ok when bolted up, but where worn enough inside to have slop when truck moved. You may need shocks.
Hope this helps.
I had a similar vibration in my 2000 as well, I had the transmission and more importanlty the Transfer case fluid replaced, and the problem was fixed. Also had a problem in the year end which was fixed by lubricating the control arms in the rear.
well, the dealership called today and needed authorization to tear down the tranny. i said go ahead as long as its covered. they still haven't had a chance to look at the other problems yet. i'm kindly discouraged. we'll see. thanks for the replys guys. i'll let you know what happens.
well, i decided to run a carfax on this vehicle. a little late now i know. turns it it was a fleet vehicle and has had 4 owners. the dealership i bought from evidently acquired this expy in feb 15. it was evidently sold to someone in this area on 4-01-05. but wait a minute, i bought this on 6-11-05. for some reason this other buyer returned it. i am scared. i set up an appt for service on 6-13-05. it has been at the dealership since tuesday for these problems. they say its gonna take a few days. i'm gettin steamed! they probably knew that there was a problem with this vehicle. it may not be anything major. waht would you guys do? storm in tomorrow and demand a replacement? wait a few days, see what they find? am i covered legally on this? I only have a 30 day warranty, that's almost half gone. any suggestions.
My 2000 4x4 EB EXPY had just expired the warranty when the tranny started to make a grinding/shuttering when you put it in reverse or was taking off from a dead stop.
It was very hard to pinpoint the problem. Sounded like the rear diff. or front transfer case? Took it to a tranny shop, $1400.00 out of my pocket later, the Planetery Gear was bad. This gear is used for reverse and slow forward motion.
There is no drain plug on the transmission case. If you remove the bottom cover and have metal filings, you found the problem.
Hope this does not happen to you.
talked to the shop yesterday, they said a spring was broken in the tranny. it should be in on tuesday. hope this helps. oh, and i talked to the previous purchaser, and they said they traded in because of gas mileage, they didn't notice any problem.
