Yes I know this has been posted before but I have '86 Bronco with a tailgate window that is stuck with the window almost closed. How do i get the motor out with the gate shut. Is there enough room in there to remove the motor by itself? i check the wiring and there is power going to the motor when you hit the switch.
You have to get the window down first (usually.) First step is remove the access panel from the inside, remove the dust cover, remove the one screw holding the lower access support. Then I would say remove the nuts off the studs on the sliders to the glass (there are four, two on each) while having someone (trustworthy) hold it tight then slide it up. Be careful at this point because the regulator is spring loaded and will be under tension, after removing the nuts you should be cautious as you EASE the regulators to a resting position. At this point you can get in there and remove the motor.
I just wanted to say that I don't know how you checked for power at the switch but if you are sure its a dead motor that is my suggestion. If you aren't sure its still a way to start although its not how I would do it.
On my 80 the window sticks in the up position when it's not been used in a while. Most of the time a good slap in the down motion with one hand with the power on it it will work. I did change mine once with the window stuck up, got in to the back took off the panel to access the motor and took it loose lower the window to get the gate down.
I tested for power with the red & yellow wires going to the motor. the glass is stopped above the motor. I start to loosen the nuts holding the motor to the regulator, but had to quit cuz it was getting dark out. I just want to be sure i'm going about this the right way. Can the motor come out with the gate up and the glass up and the regulator in place?
Yeah the motor can come out with the tailgate up, the glass will need to be slid up and held in place and you don't need to do anything with the regulator. That should be that. Sounds like you got it under control.
