Hey guys, new to the 80-86 trucks, but not to FTE or Ford trucks in general. Picked up an 86 F150 for my new winter truck and the vent window was busted in an attempted break-in even though there was nothing valuable in the truck, not even a radio. I did a search on how to replace the vent window. I have the door panel out and I found the 2 phillips screws on the front of the door frame. I am reading that there should be a 7/16"/11mm head bolt easily seen that I need to remove to pop out the vent window frame. Where exactly is this bolt? I'm guessing it's not the one on the bottom pivot of the frame holding the spring together, or is it?
Looking forward to your answers on this and other questions as I get this beast road-ready (it has been sitting for several years).
Ok, thanks. And I read that it helps to have the window down while doing this. Here's my dilemma: donor truck for vent window has power windows, not sure if there's enough wiring harness left to hook up a battery to power the window down, will this be a problem?
There the bolt was staring at me, after knowing what to look for. Replaced window no problem. The power windows didn't pose a big problem either, discovered that the track for 87 power windows is almost 1" wider than 86 manual windows! So I removed the bolts/screws holding the vent window track assembly in the 87, pushed it down far enough that I could remove the screws holding the vent window pivot to the frame, and the bottom nut with the spring, and then just popped the vent window out, leaving the rest of the frame in the door. Swapped vent window into frame for 86 and reinstalled the entire assembly into the 86. No more rain can get in.
