I have a 1998 EX XLT 4.6. The truck has 115000 miles. I was changing the oil the other day and noticed a small leak comimg from the hoses leading to the oil filter. I was wondering if anyone else noticed this problem and was if difficult to repair?
I had to replace one of mine it was the hose after the filter back to the block. It was 40 bucks. In hindsight I should have just made the hose and used aeroquip or bark fittings and saved a little. Ford390gashog, he is refering to the hoses that go the the remote oil filter under the front bumper. This was an option in 97 through at least 99 since mine has it. Not sure when they stopped it. On the 4x4 it looks like you would make a mess trying to change it if it were on the block.
Same story here. On my 98 Expy (140K), it appears the leak is coming from the "crimps" where the hose connects to the aluminum base behind the filter. Called the dealership back in the spring, to replace the asy, oil filter base back to the block $165.00 (just the part only). I added a couple of hose clamps for insurance and keeping an eye on it.
I did not replace the asy. As for the hose clamps, I installed them over the existing "crimps" thinking I could add additional pressure in an effort to stop the leaking, no luck. Leaks just enough to get the hoses wet, but not enough to actually drip in the driveway. I think the only way is to replace the hose asy, if you can get over the cost.
