I am new to this forum and I am hoping to get some info on my 2000 F-150 4X4. Not sure if a thread already exists!!! The ABS light stays on after startup. It has been like this for some time (8 months). I recently replaced the rear speed sensor since this seems to be what everyone says to do and it is only $ 22, cheaper than a $ 70 diagnosis!!! I checked as many connections as possible, master cylinder, front and rear speed sensors, control module, etc. All seems to be in tack. The cruise control is disconnected from the master cylinder as part of the service recall. Fluid level is fine. I would like to solve the problem prior to paying for the diagnostics. I just replaced front rotors and pads while examining the front speed sensors (can’t see anything). I also checked the resistance across all of the sensors. Both front sensors had a reading of 0.5 kohms while the new rear sensor had a reading of 2.0 kohms. I compressed the caliper pistons by opening the bleeder valve. I then checked and bled the system for air. Finally, the light will stay off if I hold my foot on the brake during startup, but once I release the brake pedal the light comes on. Is it possible that air in the line will cause this problem? Could there be a ground or some sort of electrical problem. The brakes feel fine. Any help or direction will be greatly appreciated!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Did you reset your computer after replacing the speed sensor? If not, disconnect your battery for 10-15 minutes. I had to replace my speed sensor when my ABS light was on. My light stayed on until I reset the computer. Hopefully, this is your problem.
Thank you very much Rich. Someone mentioned resetting the computer, but I was not sure if disconnecting the battery was the way to reset. I will do that tonight.
That being said, I don't really know if resetting the ECU that way does the same thing as clearing the codes with a programmer or scan tool. The battery thing works though. I think you need to do it each time you have a code and/or change something. Even MAF cleaning.According to Haynes manuals, expect it to run a little funny while it relearns.
It sure does, I had cpu problems where I could not even get it to read the scanner and after disconnecting the battery all is fine and no problems. remember you must also perform a drivability test in the city and on the highway for about 20 miles after doing this so the cpu can reset it self to the new sensors.
Thanks for the info. I just had the ABS diagnosed on 06-24-05. Dealer says that it is the module and the left front speed sensor. They want to get me for $ 1,400! I am not sure what I am going to do. I may just get rid of the truck at this point. GMC is looking pretty good with all the incentives!
